Tips for staying in The Zone – Part 1

Lets face it, staying in The Zone is hard; especially when you have other things like work, family, school, and a yearning for carbs that has been conditioned in your self from a life time of not being conscious or educated about your food intake (the later being the most prominent).Developing habits for staying consistent does not only make it more manageable, it is necessary if you are in it for the long haul. This will become an ongoing series of posts so be sure to stay subscribed for more tips.

  1. My favorite zone snack is something called Blocks in a Bag, although I hardly take any credit for the original idea. Basically take a zip lock back (be sure to reuse them!) and put non-perishable items in to make  X amount of blocks. One of my favorites is to use home made jerky, banana chips, and almonds but there are endless permutations you can use.
  2. Keep it simple. I should write a whole post on this point. If you go to the zone website and click on the recipe section you will see a good portion of them are complicated and time consuming. Personally, I am much more adept to using simple ingredients and short recipes. If food  preparation becomes daunting then you will be less likely to stick with it.
  3. Let others know what you are doing. When they ask why, just let them know you are balancing out your food portions to increase athletic performance. This is easier then saying “I am on a diet.”
  4. Read this article if you have a Journal subscription; Diet secrets of a tupperware man. IT is written by Greg Amundson who has been zoning for over 7 years. He goes into detail about tips on using Tupperware and shares his thoughts on how it has become a lifestyle.
  5. Keep a bag of almonds where ever you go. In your car, briefcase, gym bag, ect. This is for when your in a pinch and instead of grabbing something that will spike your insulin you can just have a hand full of nuts.

Chris, love you're latest posts. I've been zoning for about a month now and love the gains and feeling of never being hungry. Keep puttin the good shit up there! I'm not the only lurker out here.

If you haven't tried a turkey pita pizza, use 3 tbsp of avocado as a base instead of marinara for a damn tasty meal. (I'm on 16 blocks too, with 3x fat)

Rich,

Glad you like the post. I am going to make this a series so there will be plenty more. What are the specifics about the turkey pizza? If would be glad to make a post about it so others can use it.
