Be gracious in defeat and humble in winnings

Be gracious in defeat and humble in winnings.
Every coach will develop their own philosophy for sport. As mine develops and evolves I find that a overarching theme in my own creed and it affects how I act as athlete and the type of mentality I aim to instill in the people I train. The above quote exemplifies these sentiments well. How a person acts and what they think post competition is telling of one self. If they loose, do they sincerely congratulate the victor or mope and create excuses? And if they win, do they gloat or are they humble?
How do you act after or a competition? More importantly, how do you act in failure or accomplishment on a day to day basis outside of athletics?
